- After the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said that heritage breeds of pigs were considered an invasive species and outlawed them, peaceful Michigan pig farmer, Mark Baker was put on the spot. Mark’s herd of carefully tended Mangalista pigs offered his family a reliable income. Now, Mark faces constant harassment by individuals in the DNR and a serious loss of income threatening the viability of the farm.
In response to the DNR aggression against Mark, the Baker family is suing the DNR for loss of income and to keep peacefully raising their pigs on their own land. Join hundreds of other concerned individuals in support of the Bakers in court and the following day on the farm for a celebration of the farm and fundraiser to keep the farm going!
farm tour hay ride given by the Feral Farmer, Mark Baker.
Fun and games for everyone!
Greased pig contest
Music by the fire (bring your instrument and talent to share)
Folks are welcome to camp on our rustic campground in tents or campers, or in the bunkhouse (on a first come, first served basis, bring your sleeping bag—we have 16 beds). There are many other lodging options in Lake City and Cadillac, both lovely lake side towns.
Bring your own adult beverages. Please no dark liquor.
There will be some meat available for sale. We will have baskets available if you want to grab a sampler. We will also have lots of our GMO free chicken in the freezer for sale. This is a great way to support the farm and take home some good food!
This Celebration is being sponsored by friends of the farm as a way to raise the funds needed to get through till August. The government is using your tax dollars to impinge on private property and impose their irrational rules on your food providers. By helping the farm stay afloat you will be joining a community of those who want to protect your rights to procure the foods of your choice from the producer of your choice.
The event is free but there will be a donation piggy at the Celebration to show your appreciation for good food, farm fun, and Mark Baker’s courageous stand.
If you can’t attend the hearing or the Celebration but want to support Mark’s stand, you can donate through this Pledgie campaign: http://pledgie.com/campaigns/20620 Please help spread the word by grabbing the button while you’re at the site and adding it to your own site, or liking it on facebook and spreading the word that way.
We hope to see you at either or both of these events! Please RSVP by e-mail if you plan to come on Saturday so we know how many folks we get to feed. email@example.com
If you are able to donate a food, artisan item or talent for the Silent Auction, please let us know.
