Re: Raw Milk in Wisconsin & the Sauk County Vernon Hershberger Trial
Tens of thousands worldwide drink regulated and unregulated raw milk without worry. We are not a bunch of on-the-fringe weirdoes living in the wilderness and eating nuts, grubs, and dirt. We are from all socio-economic levels, young and old, healthy and not so healthy. Our goal is freedom and right to choose healthy foods and support natural farming methods. Misleading information is perpetuated by anti-raw milk government agencies and bigAgri.
Wisconsin’s Department of Agriculture & Consumer Protection (DATCP) systemically goes after Wisconsin’s organic small family raw milk farms. Farmers testified at the March, 2010 Raw Milk Bill Hearing in Eau Claire. Now the latest DATCP ambush is against Sauk County farmer, Vernon Hershberger.
In 2012, the largest USA organic raw milk dairy wrote the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) about its study “filled with highly erroneous and very misleading information.” That data “showed in fact there had been no deaths from raw milk at all” and 2 deaths in the CDC’s data were from “illegal Mexican bath tub cheese,” not raw milk from any place in America.
More approved drugs, bigAgri foods, and imports from China have seriously injured and/or caused deaths in the thousands, while raw milk related illness is miniscule with usually an underlying non-raw milk issue. Legitimate raw milk experts have the non-skewed facts. There are farmer organizations that support raw dairy and know their industry from the bottom on up. These are true raw milk experts.
Medical professional groups’ and dairy industry associations’ anti-raw milk opinions are unimpressive. The dairy industry and unions have dollar signs in their eyes. Medical doctors do not learn much nutrition, and dieticians, unfortunately, follow an upside-down food pyramid while pushing artificial ingredient filled foods. The underground medical doctors and nutritionists educated in nutrition based healing are supporters of organic foods and raw dairy. They fly under the radar for fear of being ridiculed and ostracized by mainstream medicine and have amazing success stories.
During the 2010 raw milk bill battle, an anti-raw milk farmer and nutritionist blogged about feeding milking cows doughnuts and cookies and practicing their farming technique of the confined cows laying on compost that is manure and sawdust tilled three times a day.
The son became sick drinking raw milk. Of course, the boy became ill from drinking raw milk from that farm!
Cows on pasture, eating an exclusive diet of grass and hay, have produced healthy raw milk for thousands of years. Knowing your farmer is most important. There are trusting consumers that might not recognize a “dirty farmer” with doughnut, cookie, manure/sawdust mishandled cows.
Governor Doyle vetoed the raw milk bill in May, 2010. It was an opportunity to protect the consumer and the farmer, promote economic growth in the small raw milk market niche of farm-to-consumer, and provide an economic boost for the beautiful surrounding rural communities. He chose to protect bigAgri under the guise of a safety scare.
Let’s truly protect personal liberties!
